Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy Quito’s Political Team is recruiting an intern to support the UK’s diplomatic mission in Ecuador. If you are curious about international affairs, this is your chance to get hands-on experience.
The intern will primarily support the Political and Communications Team at the British Embassy in Quito. The role will focus on political research and analysis on key developments in Ecuador and the region, as well as communications for the Embassy. The intern will also assist with public diplomacy, community engagement, and event organisation. This opportunity offers valuable professional experience for an Ecuadorian university student with a strong interest in international affairs and UK foreign policy.

Level of language required: Fluent in both languages, both orally and in writing

Applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Ecuador at the time of application. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount. Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.

The FCDO is committed to learning and development for all its employees, including interns. A wide variety of optional training is available, to be scheduled around work commitments.
Interns also have the option of completing the International Academy Foundation Course. The course is equivalent to a City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in UK Foreign Policy and Diplomacy, a UK-recognised qualification.
Working patterns:
Availability to work 30 hours per week. Flexible working hours within the Embassy’s opening hours, as agreed in advance with the relevant Line Manager:Monday – Thursday: 08.00 – 16.30Friday: 08.00 – 13.00
Contract:
6-month Civil ContractMonthly internship salary of US$460 + IESS contributions paid by Embassy in fullAppointment will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. The successful candidate will be required to provide timely documentation to support these processes.
