Main purpose of job:
As a Security Officer at the British Embassy Berlin, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, security and smooth day‑to‑day operation of the Embassy and associated official residences. Working as part of a professional security team, you will help protect staff, visitors, contractors and high‑profile guests, while maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment.
This is a front‑line operational role that combines vigilance, good judgement and strong interpersonal skills. You will be responsible for monitoring security systems, controlling access to secure areas, responding to incidents and supporting emergency procedures. You will also contribute to security arrangements for official visits and events, including those involving senior UK representatives.
You will need to remain calm under pressure, follow procedures accurately, and work closely with colleagues to ensure consistently high security standards in a busy and dynamic environment.

This is a full time (40 hours a week), fixed-term 2 year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding. Salary €43,620.- rising to a maximum of approx. €48,998.- gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay and €253,81 monthly functional allowance (salary is not negotiable). Candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.

Working Patterns: The role operates on a shift system between 05:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday, with participation in a stand‑by duty rota outside these hours and occasional weekend working.

Learning and development opportunities exist under the general FCDO learning and development criteria. Security specific development can be applied for under the FCDO learning and development Security Education package available for those FCDO members carrying out a security role.
